Portofino
There is no escaping the beauty of Portofino, tucked into a protected inlet surrounded by lush cypress and olive trees. A small fishing village in the province of Genoa, on the Italian Riviera. The town is considered among the most beautiful of all Mediterranean ports. The streets are narrow and windy, just like you would expect on the Riviera. Five minutes from the village is the Church of San Giorgio, which contain the relics of St. George. Castello Brown is a 16th century Castle/Fort located high above the harbour giving awesome views. Along with shops selling food and wine, there are also big name Designers boutiques here. For a unique item to take back home there is fine embroidery, blown glass items and locally produced Limoncello. Relax and enjoy all the natural seductiveness and pleasures Portofino has to offer.
Venice
Considered by many to be one of the most beautiful cities in the world, its world famous for its canals. More spectacular than any photo could portray. Take a walk through the quaint cobblestone streets and across the endless Venetian bridges to discover the intimate details that make Venice so unique. If you are a hopeless romantic, this is the city for you.
Piazza San Marco
A focal point of the city, it will take your breath away. St. Mark's Square on a summer evening with an orchestra playing, combined with the sound of lapping water in the canal is like a dream.
Ponte de Rialto
Built in 1588 as a replacement for 3 previous wooden bridges. A 24ft arch built on wooden pilings still supports the bridge some 400 years later. This is a good spot in which to watch Venice in action.
Ponte di Sospiri
Given this name since the little window on the bridge is the last time prisoners saw the outdoors before crossing the bridge from the court house to the prison. The guards would hear them sigh as they looked out for the last time.
Scuola Grande di San Rocco
Founded in the 15th century as a confraternity to assist citizens at the time of the plague. As a truly spiritual experience, the artwork of Tintoretto will touch your soul.
Basilica San Marco – Campanile
This was begun on pre-existing Roman foundations and re-built several times between the 12th and 14th centuries. The Campanile allows you a birds eye view of the city and lets you look down on the 5 Domes of St. Marks Basilica. The arched belfry on which a large dado stands serves as a base for the pyramid spire topped by the golden Archangel Gabriel.
Venetian Glass
Made primarily on the island of Murano, and renowned for being colourful, elaborate and skilfully made. Still using centuries old techniques, the artists create one of a kind pieces using various methods, glass with gold threads (aventurine), multicoloured (millefiore), milk glass (latte), and enamelled (smalto).
